Problems with WordPress

Allen November 28th, 2007

Well, I upgraded to the new WordPress and it seems to be giving me fits. Something to fix another day when it isn’t so late.

More backlogged posts and more guilt about not writing here more often.

<sigh>

Where Have All the Acorns Gone?

Allen May 30th, 2007

Long time passing…

Actually, I’m still generating some acorns in my Moleskine, but haven’t been posting them. And why not?

Because when I’m not traveling to Owego, NY for my job, I’m tiling our house. Our whole house. I’m getting pretty good at it, but it sure does chew up my spare time. I’ll try to post some pictures sometime, but I’m either: (1) Tiling (2) Traveling (3) Crashing from (1) or (2).

Back to your regularly scheduled silence…

New Site Almost Up and Running

Allen December 16th, 2006

After some amount of work, I’ve gotten close to having my new WordPress Website up and running. I’ve moved our family website over to AN Hosting and I can host a WordPress website for my weblog here as well.

This works out to be much cheaper than TypePad, so I’ve snarfed all my old postings from TypePad and moved them over here.

Some of the old posting formatting is kind of funky, with weird line breaks in them. I’ve cleaned up the posts that I’ve listed in my Seedlings page (see the tabs above) and I’ll clean up the others as time and desire permits.

In any case, I’ll be shutting down my old site after I’ve redirected what few readers I have over to this site.

While the country-bumpkin part of me hopes this will renew some effort into this weblog, I realize that I’m no longer in the “sweet-spot” when I was so active in weblogging in the past. My old job was shutting down and I could devote a large amount of time to surfing and writing posts.

My new job is quite hectic and most of my posts are developed first on my Moleskine and later transferred to this website. The development of ideas and the transition to this website doesn’t happen as often as I would like, but this is something I am getting used to.

Of course, this has lead to me being more of a thinker than a linker, but I was really wanting to go that way anyway.

Much Ado About Nothing

Allen April 4th, 2006

Just a quick note that I haven’t died or anything. Getting settled into the new job and have been extremely busy at home as well.

Good God, do I hate posting about not posting.

Seasons’ Greetings

Allen December 22nd, 2005

I was rather quick in shouting for joy that the wireless card on the laptop was now working with Damn Small Linux — it died.  And given how busy I’ve been at work, I’ve been letting some draft postings pile up again.

<sigh>

Perhaps I can clear them out today and over the weekend.

In any case, Merry Christmas.

Or Happy Hanukkah.

Perhaps Bountiful Kawanzaa.

Or maybe Relief-filled "Oh God! Oh God! The Sun is Dying! We’re All Gonna Die! The Sun is Dying! Oh Wait, It’s Tracking North Again" Day.

Perhaps a New Day?

Allen November 29th, 2005

I really, really hate blogging about blogging.

But…

I’ve been incredibly busy at work, scurrying around interviewing users and working on programs and a documentation set.  Given that we basically have a single computer at home (we really have another one that is very difficult to use), I haven’t been able to work much on the weblog from home.

All of this is a preface to say that I’m typing this on a laptop on which I finally got Damn Small Linux installed and the wireless card to work (for now).  So perhaps I can start posting once again to my weblog.

I may loose Internet access with a new job that I might move to in the next few weeks (months?).  Not that they don’t have Internet access, but rather it is a secured location that disallows even email to or from free sites (yahoo/hotmail/etc).  So I doubt very seriously if they will let me post to my weblog during lunch as I am used to doing.

So if all goes well, the laptop with Damn Small Linux may be my ticket to posting more often to my weblog.  This will be heartening news to all 3 of you who check here upon occasion. :-)

I may spend the rest of the night cleaning up some draft postings and clearing a bunch out that I no longer feel the need to discuss.

Good to be back, I hope.

Color Me Amazed

Allen August 24th, 2005

Not sure exactly where amazed is in the Crayola box, but it must be close to stupified.

Apparently I’ve been nominated for Best Political Blog in the 2005 Okie Blog Awards.  Just found out via a comment from Monica, who has an excellent site.

My blog postings have been rather spotty at times with lots of readership dropoff while I was blogging less while looking for a job.  I still can’t figure that one out (the blogging less, not the drop in readership).  I guess I need the security of a job in order to feel I can write.  Guess that definitely rules out being an author as a means of support.

Anyway, if you are an active Okie blogger, stop by the 2005 Okie Blog Awards and vote for your favorites.

New Job, New Beginnings, Renewed Postings?

Allen June 20th, 2005

Well, finally found a new job and I’m actually spending time at the computer again. Perhaps now I’ll start posting again on the weblog.

Still need to get my RSS reader up and running here and at home.

Currently doing an analysis of the systems at my new job and a phrase keeps running through my mind:  "It’s hard to dance the Virginia Reel when the band is playing a minute." (Don’t know how to properly mark the word minute, but I mean minute as in "The Minute in G Minor.")

Saw where Laura Boyd recently got a new job as well — Chair of the Democratic Party in Oklahoma.  Given how Oklahoma politics have been trending over the past few years with the conservative Dixiecrats finally breaking ranks with the more liberal elements of the party, I don’t think she will be having a very pleasant time in that particular chair.

In fact, my job is currently a temp-to-hire whereby I’m gone in a year if they don’t like what they see (and I’ll be gone before that if I don’t like what I see).  It will be an interesting race to see who looses their job first.

chkdsk /nodraftposts mind:

Allen January 20th, 2005

56 draft postings removed.

Now perhaps I will post more when I get a chance.  I kept trying to work on old draft postings.  I finally decided to purge them off and start with new material.  It was mostly comments on other people’s articles and by now the comment would have been stale.
