Easy — it’s a disputed win.

To the Trojans fans

Wow.  Game over dude.  You didn’t win and won’t get the two-in-the-row National Championship.  And no, you didn’t win a National Championship two years ago.  You weren’t in the National Championship game, so you can’t win a National Championship.  And there went your winning streak.  Sucks that you are loosing at least one, probably two great players next year.

To the Longhorns fans

Wow.  Game over dude.  You really didn’t win, you know that?  Subtract out the six points from the not-really-a-touchdown and you lost.  Yeah, you won on a technicality, but you know in your heart of hearts that it wasn’t really a true win.  Sure you get Vince Young back next year.  But hopefully the win by the Sooners next year (maybe, maybe) will crush any hope you have for next year.

My son wanted the Rose Bowl to experience an earthquake before the game and the football field to disappear.  This is probably just as good.

Already received one troll comment (to what is, admittedly a troll-ish essay) and denied entry.  I will grant the commenter’s note that we got our "ASSES whuped" in the Texas game.  I had problems reading the rest of the comment.  Please wipe off the drool next time before posting.

Anyway, hope everyone realizes the posting was in fun.  Most things in life are too serious to be taken seriously.

I do want to congratulate both teams on an excellent game.  I want to thank Matt Leinert for the great comment at the end of the game.  Definitely plays in to the master OU plan.

And you both know you really didn’t win the game, right?

But John DeShazier of NOLA.com is not happy — you’ll have to scroll down to get to the story entitled "Hornets aren’t playing enough games in Louisiana".

Saints fans who felt slighted at the prospect of only having a
realistic chance of seeing their team in person for half of its
allotted home games now appear to have landed a windfall, compared to
Hornets fans who will see their team play about 15 percent of its
available home dates in Louisiana.

The money concern is understood. Every fan understands that operating a
franchise is a business, employees must be paid, goods and services
aren’t free.

It’s understood that the opportunity to make money and play in an
NBA-type facility best is presented by playing in Oklahoma City, at a
19,675-seat facility that has more than 3,000 club seats and nearly 50
private suites, rather than in a 13,000-seat college arena which has a
lack of premium club seats and box suites.

There aren’t any date conflicts to play at the Ford Center, whereas
LSU’s weeknight home games overwhelmingly are played on Wednesday
nights, which is the same night the Hornets play many of their
weeknight home games.

And Oklahoma City is providing money to help pay for the Hornets’
relocation and providing cash guarantees in case the team’s revenues
dip.

But even with all those pluses tilted in one direction and the
negatives galloping toward the other, and the fact that it’ll be 10
times the hassle to play at the PMAC than at the Ford Center, the
franchise still should have fought like hell to play as often as
possible in Baton Rouge, to show more allegiance, to reward the fans
from the city that have embraced it.

While I can certainly understand the feelings that Mr. DeShazier is expressing, what are the real prospects of the Hornets playing under the conditions that would have been present in Baton Rouge?  Scheduling conflicts in a smaller area?  What are the chances that any major business "should have fought like hell to play as often as
possible in Baton Rouge"?

He don’t know too much about big business do he?

I hope for his sake that the New Orleans Hornets can return to their original home New Orleans.  I hope for our sake that they remain here in OKC.

Enjoy your winning the Heisman trophy.  Take this time off to bask in the glory of winning one of the most prestigious awards in college football.  Be sure to attend all the parties that you are invited to.  Go out on long, late-night dates with supermodels and attend the high-energy dance parties with them.  Jet around the world and meet with European princess who are dying to meet you and get to know you better.  Eat the rich foods and drink all the Cristal you want to.

You’ve earned it.

It’s not like you have any big games coming up.

Michael Phelps (news – web sites) is done for the Olympics. Shortly after winning his fifth gold medal and seventh overall, Phelps told U.S. men’s coach Eddie Reese that he wanted to give up his spot on the butterfly leg of the 400-meter medley relay team to Ian Crocker.

Phelps, who already swam in the morning preliminaries on the medley relay, earned a right to swim the final by beating Crocker in the 100 fly Friday night by a minuscule four-hundredths of a second. But Phelps said he would cede his coveted spot in the final to Crocker.

“We came into this meet as a team and we’re going to leave it as a team,” Phelps said. “It’s the right thing to do.”

Update: As a note, Michael will get the same metal as the rest of the team as he was part of the preliminary qualifying team.

I was impressed with both quarterbacks — able to lead their teams with grace under pressure. And the ending by Vinatieri’s “3rd time’s a charm” field goal was classic.

The half time show was, well, interesting. A schizophrenic musical set (look, just pick one or two artists and go with them) capped with a Lingerie Bowl worthy finale. It’s a sad comment on artists today who cannot differentiate between a half-time performance and a burlesque routine.

CBS has already apologized for the event. I imagine they had the apology pre-written.

Justin Timberlake has already apologized. To quote:

“I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl,” Timberlake said in a statement. “It was not intentional and is regrettable.”

In fact, it was so unintentional that a lyric in the song just happened to be, “Gonna have you naked by the end of this song.” So much of an accident that Justin and Janet held the pose for quite some time. It was so unpremeditated that Janet just happened to be wearing a star shaped pastie.

Look, if someone wants that sort of entertainment, that’s OK by me. Free choice and all that biz. I just think there is a time and a place for that sort of thing. And during the half-time of the Super Bowl is not that time and place. Perhaps during the half time of the Lingerie Bowl.

Extremely disappointing. I hope someone gets fined some serious money for this.

So there you have American culture under a microscope. A game that highlights what is both good and bad about the United States. Two excellent teams giving their all. Two churlish performers seeking to brighten the spotlight on their lack of taste.

As a further note, my wife says that the Drudge Report has an extreme closeup of the “protection” in question. It is not a pastie. It is a nipple ring.

It is also interesting to read MTV’s pre-game announcement regarding the show. Capture the text quickly, because something tells me this will be coming down real soon.

They said:

“I don’t think the Super Bowl has ever seen a performance like this,” Duldulao added. “The dancing is great. She’s more stylized, she’s more feminine, she’s more a woman as she dances this time around. There are some shocking moments in there too. It’s a lot of pressure, there’s so many creative people and creative artists, you want to make sure everything is different, and I think she’s going to do that. She’s doing her job well.”

Again, I don’t want to come off as a prude here. I have no problem with this sort of thing, in proper context. This was not proper context. How many teeny-boppers tuned in to watch Justin and got a faceful of Janet’s amazing nipple in return?

Getting back to what was real. Excellent Super Bowl game. Terrible half-time show.
